8 Ways To Save Money At The Grocery Store

Make a List: If you make a list and stick to it I guarantee that your grocery bill will go down. It will help with impulse buying. Grocery stores market items so that you will impulse buy. Studies are even conducted so that items are placed in certain places for you to buy. If you have a list you will be on a mission to find each item instead of browsing each isle.

Look at the ads: Before you go to the store look over the store ad and find out what is on sale at which store. Doritos may be $3.29 a bag at one store and buy one get one free at another. It may take time to go to a couple of stores but the savings make it worth it, especially for a family on a tight budget.

Coupons: Cut out coupons. You may think that you are "just" saving .50 cents but if you can save .50 cents on each item that you buy, it can add up quickly. If you use your and shop the sales you together the savings really adds up.
You can print online. (Check w/ your local store, not all stores accept printed coupons.)

Buy in Bulk: If your family uses a lot of mayonnaise for example and your grocery store has them buy one get one free. Check your and see if you have two mayonnaise and use a coupon on each one. If mayonnaise is regularly $2.99 and this week it is buy one get one free. That makes each jar $1.50. If you have two .50 cent that makes each jar of mayonnaise $1.00 compared to $2.99.

Online: There are plenty of websites that will give you a chart of everything that is on sale that week and if there is a coupon for the item and the after coupon price. Check message boards where people post messages about items they have gotten cheap, free, or nearly free. You can also purchase online that are already cut and sorted for you.

Plan your meals ahead: If you plan out each meal ahead of time you will know exactly what ingredients you will need and that will keep you better on track with your list. It also helps you from running to the grocery store to pick up something that you forgot and impulse buying.

Keep a Journal: Make a journal of all the items that you most commonly buy and write down the cheapest place that you have bought it for and how much. This way you can figure out how much you will spend.

Spend Cash: If you only bring cash with you to the store than you have to spend that set amount of cash and you cannot go over. This will help with overspending and impulse buying, which is very easy at the grocery store. You may want to bring a calculator with you to help figure out how much you have spent along the way.
