Skiing British Columbia By Ralph Hatchins If you love to ski, British Columbia is the place for your next holiday. With several world class ski resorts and some of the most beautiful scenery you will ever see, this is a top-notch vacation destination. Neighbors to the North of the United States, in BC is the place to be. The ski season typically lasts anywhere from November until April, sometimes even slipping into May at the higher altitude resorts. BC has built much of its tourism economy on its ski resorts, and it shows in these wonderful resorts.
The best resort in BC is considered by most to be Whistler Blackcomb. Located only two hours north of cosmopolitan Vancouver, these two mountains offer not only fabulous skiing, but a great town to play in as well. Whistler village, nestled at the base of the ski trails is filled with great shops, many wonderful restaurants, bars, and fun filled nightlife. You can also see a number of homes valued at over a million dollars. If you aren't a skier, you can still have a great time at Whistler.
Even if you do not ski or snowboard, you could easily enjoy yourself in Whistler village for days. The ski hills offer fantastic powder year round, and a huge variety of runs for beginners to advanced skiers and snowboarders. The total terrain is 3,036 hectares with over 200 runs. You could be here for a week and barely ski the same runs twice! With 33 lifts, and many of them high speed, you get to spend more time and less time waiting for lifts. Aim to spend at least a few days at Whistler Blackcomb to get the full ski resort experience.

with many great restaurants and bars. There are many accommodation possibilities, with everything from value hotel rooms to entire chalets complete with a private hot tub for the entire family. The hill boasts 15 lifts and over 118 trails. There is plenty to do other than and snowboarding. If you enjoy cross-country there are numerous trails for your use. There is also a tubing area and an ice-skating pond. Big White also offers excellent night skiing, and there is a significant discount off of the regular daily price.
Some other notable ski resorts in BC are Silver Star in Vernon, Sun Peaks in Kamloops, Apex in Penticton, and several smaller hills just outside of Vancouver which are all within 20 minutes of the city. If steep and deep powder is your passion, then you will definitely want to check out Fernie. in British Columbia is a wonderful winter vacation.
